On Tuesday we went to Bern to take part to the “Design Preis Schweiz 05″ award ceremony and the opening of its exhibition (a selection of 35 projects among roughly 300 initial applications) in the “Korn Haus Forum”.

The selected projects are divided into 6 categories : communication design, research, fashion & textile design, Swiss textile design award, furniture & interior design and product design. They are assigned to a prize category among : market, newcomer, research, merit and award. The prize winners are respectively Alfredo Häberly, Irene Münger, HGKZ - Christoph Weckerle, Scherrer/Hefti and Rolf Fehlbaum.

As you see there’s unfortunately no Mrs Jaques in there. Nevertheless we could enjoy a free diner at the Korn Haus Keller which was reserved for the occasion.

The Design Preis in brief
“The Design Preis Schweiz is intended to highlight the importance of Swiss design.
Economic and cultural relevance are the features sought after.
In the light of top quality prize-winning work, the innovative effect of design as a business success factor will be reflected.
Interdisciplinary contacts will encourage dialogue between designers and companies.
Support will be provided for new visions, research projects and implementations in keeping with the market, enabling them to achieve breakthrough.
The Design Preis Schweiz both observes and makes an impression on the market, honours outstanding achievements and sees its role as that of giving uncompromising encouragement to adventurous ideas which will create new paths for the future of design.”*

4 days of hard work to build a show room in the international furniture exhibition in Zürich, so called “Neue Räume”. More precisely it was in the “Gastraum”, or what might be translated into “guest-area”, a section made of 8 rooms that represented the association of a well-known designer (the guest), a swiss designer and a swiss furniture retailer. Emanuelle was in charge of one of those, associated with the Swedish shooting-star Front design group and Holm Scandinavian design shop in Zürich.

Schweizer Designer und Nachwuchstalente gestalten mit ihren Gästen aus der internationalen Designszene begehbare neue Räume: Mit Ronan und Erwan Bouroullec, Konstantin Grcic, Alfredo Häberli, Atelier Oi, Christophe Marchand und weiteren. Jeder Raum steht unter dem Patronat eines Fachhandelspartners. Die Besucher können ungewohnte Atmosphären, besondere Produkte und neue Sichtweisen erleben. Kuratiert wird «Gastraum» vom Designer Jörg Boner.*
